Serpentine Silver Pendant with Tab Setting
Serpentine Silver Pendant with Tab Setting
100% sterling silver pendant with pale green serpentinite stone.
Each component is lovingly hand cut, hammered, filed and soldered together to create the perfect home for such a pretty stone.
The oxidised silver compliments the bands of grey minerals that cut through the pale green surface of the stone. The effect is an edgy, eye catching pendant hung on a heavier silver chain.
The name serpentine comes from the snakelike appearance the stone can have which is particularly evident in this example, where the mottled grey colouration is reminiscent of snakeskin.
Serpentine is an interesting stone with a rich history. Used to make drinking cups in Germany and to build an entire college hall in Pennsylvania. It was said to have strong protective properties and vessels built out of it would shatter if they came in contact with poison.
