About me
My name is Geena and I am a silversmith working from my home studio in Co Kilkenny.
Geena Mae Jewellery is a celebration of nature and crafstmanship. Each piece of 100% sterling silver jewellery and is made entirely by hand using recycled silver, semi-precious stones and sea glass picked from the Irish coastline.
Geena Mae Jewellery is also a celebration of process. I have always been drawn to process, naturally slow at completing tasks, getting absorbed in the minute detail of a project, told to speed up.
I learned to work fast over the years. To not dive too deep. I graduated in Biomedical Sciences, worked as a secretary, receptionist, bartender, baker, chef, waitress. I travelled and volunteered. I learned to get things done.
Throughout it all I always made things. Things that took hours. The slow knitting of a jumper one stitch at a time. I was forever drawn to the peace I found in the process of making things, the attention to detail that beautiful things require. It is the thread that connects the sprawling paths.
What I adore more than anything is knowing that the pieces of jewellery which are created in my studio are out there in the world adding a little more beauty, a little more appreciation of the slow work of handmade things.
