Seaglass Teardrop Earrings
Seaglass Teardrop Earrings
Handmade sterling silver earrings featuring two beautiful pieces of seaglass, collected from the Waterford coastline and handcrafted in my workshop in Slieverue.
Seaglass takes many years to form, first shattering from bottles and discarded windows, and then eroding in the waves, smaller and smaller, rounder and rounder. Some pieces could date back 200 years to when glass first started commonly being used in Ireland and being lost or discarded at sea, eroded by the turbulent Irish coastline.
Every element is lovingly handcut, shaped, hammered, filed and soldered. The smooth reflective silver, a contrast to the frosty organically formed sea glass. A protective home for the quiet beauty of the Waterford coastline.
Below each piece of seaglass is a teardrop shape charm with sterling silver dust fused to the silver backplate. The fine silver particles create a raised texture that is inspired by the foam of waves crashing on a rocky shore.
Because each piece is made using real seaglass, the exact shape and size can never be fully controlled, and natural variations are to be expected and celebrated. You can choose your preferred colour, but the earrings will always be completely unique. The sea glass in each earring will match in colour and rough size but not in shape.
Started by the sea, finished in my workshop, worn by you.
Note:
These are made to order pieces and have a 3 week lead time.
Earring length is roughly 6cm, teardrop charm is roughly 2.5cm in length
Sea glass pieces are in their natural size and shape as found in nature. These pieces can vary but are roughly 1cm in width and 1cm in height although this is a very rough guideline due to their organic shape
